Claire's Catastrophe

(Claire at the hospital after her x-ray and one of the few moments where she wasn't crying.)

Yesterday when we were at playgroup with my ward Claire decided to stand up on one of the chairs and the chair tipped over on to the cement. At first I thought she may just have a bump on her head but when I picked her up she was bleeding all over. Finally figured out the blood was coming from her left hand which was already missing one fingernail. She was in some serious pain. A friend at playgroup helped me get her to the ER. Other friends took my van keys and my 3older kids. Everyone was so kind and helpful as I tried to get Claire's hand and bump on the head looked at. I was at the ER for hours. They did an x-ray on Claire's hand and cleaned her up and here are the results:

Left Hand:
left ring finger bone is cracked
left ring finger had to get 2 stitches underneath it
removed middle and pointer fingernails
left middle finger had to have 2 stitches

Needless to say, it was a very long day. It was hard to watch her go through so much pain and know there was nothing I could do to make it better. Anyway, she seems to be in good spirits this morning as long as she has some Tylenol or Motrin. She'll be x-rayed again in a month to make sure the bone repairs itself. Stitches come out in 7days.

(Finally at home with daddy after a long day at the ER. Hand all fixed up and hospital ankle bracelets.)

Look out preschool, here she comes!

We found out that Linda was accepted in to preschool this year! She will go in the afternoons at the same school that Bruce attends. Hooray for Linda!
She is one excited girl.
(PS - If we were still in California, Linda would've started kindergarten this year but she misses the cut off date here in Virginia.)

It's Official, I'm a Soccer Mom!

Bruce just before practice. He was so happy to be able to play with a bunch of boys his own age.
Coach Thompson in action. He did a great job with the boys...and he has a few rowdy ones. It was fun to watch both of my boys.
The kids playing around before and after practice. The girls found a little friend to play with and Claire tried to drink out of all of the kids water bottles on the sidelines.

TIDBITS

* Yesterday marked a year and a half of living on the East Coast. It's been an adventure. We have grown to love it here, but still wish our family was closer.

* Tuesday Bruce starts soccer for the first time and Robert will be his coach!
(posts and pics to come)

* My mother was here visiting this week and it was so wonderful to have her here. We went to a show at the Kennedy Center while she was here. It was a comedy/murder mystery where the audience helps solve the crime. There was a lot of improv involved. Very fun. Linda cried when grandma had to go home, and so did I.

* Robert is 1st Counselor in EQ and I'm Primary Pres. We're getting ready for our chili/cobbler ward cook off in September. Robert and I both took 1st place last year. Robert for his chili and I for my pumpkin cobbler.

* Bruce will start 1st grade in early September. We're pretty sure that Linda will start preschool as well.
(1st day of school post to come!)

Happy 3rd Birthday to my sweetie. Jane is a ray of sunshine to all who know her. She loves to cuddle and giggle and go to the playground. She does everything she does just right and reminds others when they're not. :) Jane was named after a distant relative on Robert's side(Lydia Jane Brown) and her middle name, Dee, is part of mommy's name.(KaDee) Robert and I adore her. I am humbled that the Lord would let her be a part of our family.

mommy's journal - "I fell in love with Jane instantly and I love to hold her, watch her sleep, and just take her in..."

Happy 6th Birthday To Bruce!!

Bruce John Thompson
August 12, 2003
9lbs. 3oz.
20 3/4" tall
Oceanside, California

Bruce has grown to be such a wonderful little boy. He brings so much joy to our home. He loves school and learning. He has a great sense of humor. He is naturally athletic and very competitive. He is our only little boy which gives him a special place in my heart.
For his birthday we are going to his favorite restraunt, Red Robin, and then home for birthday brownies(he doesn't do cake) and presents.
Bruce was named after Robert's father(BRUCE Charles Thompson) and after KaDee's grandfather (JOHN James Nielson).

mommy's journal - "When I heard him cry I couldn't believe he was mine. I started crying, then my mom cried and even Robert. It was an absolute miracle and I could feel the spirit so strong..."

Mission Accomplished

We had our family pictures and updated pictures of all the kids taken this morning. Stay tuned! They should be up in a week or so. A friend of mine in our ward is a photographer and she did them for us outside. It was much easier for the kids to have pictures taken outside rather than a small studio. I put a button to her website on the sidebar of the blog for anyone in the DC area that needs some pictures taken. I'm excited to see the results and get some good pics up on the blog finally! Robert may even make his blog debut! :)
