Thompson Family Christmas Party

We had the Thompson family Christmas party on Christmas Eve in Rainbow, CA. Bruce and Donna reserved the clubhouse and had it catered from one of the family's favorite Mexican restaurants. I didn't get many pictures but we had a fun time. The kids played pool, watched a little bit of a movie, opened their present from Grandma and Grandpa, and participated in a little talent show. (Claire- sang a song, Jane-played piano, Bruce-magic trick, Linda-sang with her cousin) The adults had a white elephant gift exchange. It was a fun night.

The one I came home with was funny as well.

Robert's Soccer

Some guys from our ward are on a city soccer team and a while back they gave Robert a call because they needed someone to fill in for the night. Robert went and then stuck with it and joined the team. He's played goalie and also played on the field. He's enjoyed it but comes home really sore every time they play. :) His team did really well and made it all the way to the championship game, which they won! The kids and I hadn't been able to attend any regular season games because they're usually later in the evening on a school night. The semi-finals and final game were on the same night and were while the kids were out of school. We were happy we could go support Robert, even though it was a little cold and rainy.

Prettyman Family Christmas Party

We had so much fun at the Prettyman family Christmas party over the weekend. We had it at Sue's house in Palm Desert. My mom, Gregg's family, Sue's family, our family, and Jill's family(except Elder Davis & Tyler) were able to make it. We missed Jenny's family. 

 The cousins had fun playing all kinds of games. Everyone loved holding Evylin. 

It was so nice to all be together.

 We did a $1 white elephant gift game and the kids all made ornaments. 

 We had a big turkey dinner and had fun catching up with each other. It really made it feel like the Christmas season had officially begun.

Claire Update

Claire just finished up a season of soccer. Despite absolutely hating to wear cleats and shingaurds she had a lot of fun and looked forward to going every time. Claire loves to run, is aggressive, and likes to play with other girls her age so this was perfect for her. She even scored some goals. 

In other news...I got a note from the school saying that we should have Claire's eyes checked. So I took her in. He said she is a little far sided and has astigmatism. So he recommended glasses.

These are the glasses Claire picked out. She's having second thoughts and we have 2 weeks to change frames, but for now here's what she wears, when we can get her to wear them. 

"Mom, it's the new me." :)

Tijuana, Mexico Temple

Robert and I used to drive down to Mexico to shop and have tacos and lobster all of the time back when we were dating and early in our marriage. Since then it's gotten more dangerous and we haven't gone because it made us nervous to take the kids. 
Well, a perfect opportunity presented itself to get us back to Mexico. They just built a temple in Tijuana, Mexico which is just across the border. Robert and I already had passports so we loaded up the kids and headed down. It took just over an hour from our house to the temple parking lot.

The kids couldn't believe how different life was just across the border. Tijuana is a very poor city. It's pretty dirty and houses are stacked almost on top of each other. It was good for the kids to see how other people live, and that you can be happy no matter where you live. We're spoiled Americans. :)

 The temple was just off of the freeway in the only nice neighborhood we could see.

The temple was so beautiful. The artwork, dark wood, cast iron, blue accent, and landscaping were unique and it is on my list of most beautiful temples.

 It was such a nice experience for our family. Who knows, maybe we just might go back to Mexico in the near future.
